Interns at Toyota Motor Manufacturing WV will learn about Toyota’s foundational curriculum to develop safe, efficient processes and use these techniques to build bicycles as their capstone project. These bicycles will then be donated to underprivileged children via our community partners and our business partnering groups (BPG). Interns will also gain valuable professional skills through daily workplace mentoring.
Interns at Appalachian Power’s Hybrid Internship program will learn about different parts of the company and will take field trips to the following locations – John Amos Power Plant, Hurricane Customer Solutions Center, Line Mechanics working in various counties, and the Central Machine shop in South Charleston. Interns will complete a capstone project of creating a safety campaign around slips, trips and falls and how it relates back to each of the careers observed during the various field trips.
Interns at WV American Water Charleston location will work in a team with WVAW Huntington interns to complete a capstone project. The capstone project will assign each intern a department within WVAW (communications, business performance, operations, and water quality). Interns will be tasked with the scenario of a major water line break, and each department will have to create a plan for how to react, respond, and repair the water line break accordingly. Additionally, interns will learn about the wide variety of careers available in the utilities industry, learn about water treatment plants, and gain valuable professional skills through workplace mentoring.

Interns at Appalachian Power’s Virtual Internship program will work with their Economic Development team members to gather information about commercial and industrial sites across the Appalachian Power footprint. Interns will coordinate with other utilities as well as county and city development authorities to compile capacity information about properties in a specific area. This information is used to attract business and industry to our state. No in-person meetings are required - all meetings will take place via video calls.
