Service with AmeriCorps during the COVID-19 pandemic may look different than in years past. In this session, participants will learn best practices for facilitating virtual experiences, workshops, & meetings. We will also review impactful alternative service opportunities for Corps Members, and learn best practices for leading during crisis situations. AmeriCorps Speed Meeting: Networking with a Twist with Volunteer WV Staff
Tuesday, October 27th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm
This year’s virtual conference makes it more difficult to meet and greet with fellow AmeriCorps members from across the state; difficult, but not impossible! Join this session for a fun, fast-paced, and hilarious ‘speed dating’ style networking opportunity. Facilitated by Volunteer West Virginia Staff, AmeriCorps members should expect to laugh a lot, learn a little, and leave with a few new friends!

Building a Grant Writing Framework for Success with Alice Runhke, The Grant Advantage
Tuesday, October 27th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm
Creating a strong grant application starts long before the funder releases their announcement that they are accepting applications. Successful proposals need careful and deliberate planning. Join us for this 90-minute webinar to learn how to use a Program Planning Framework to develop the common sections of a grant application and connect the pieces to tell a consistent and compelling story. We will cover grant writing basics and discuss confusing grant writing terminology to identify what funders are looking for and how to develop winning proposals.

Show me the Resources! with Sharrell Harmon, AmeriCorps Alumni
Wednesday, October 28th from 9:00 – 10:00 am
The objective of the session will be to inform members of all the income-based resources that they may be entitled to as an AmeriCorps Member (SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare, HUD, WV Works, AmeriCorps GAP Childcare, and The AmeriCorps Segal Award) and how applying for these benefits can maximize their monthly stipend and affordability.

AmeriCorps Virtual Scavenger Hunt with Volunteer WV Staff
Wednesday, October 28th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Another fun networking-style session facilitated by Volunteer West Virginia staff! During our time together, members will be prompted to complete a variety of challenges in their home, workspace, coffee shop… wherever they are tuning in from! Speed, creativity, and the skill of collecting random items will lead to success in the series of tasks we have prepared for you. Participants will have the chance to win an AmeriCorps prize pack!

Critical Leadership and Service with Jeff Birdsall, Birdsall Consulting
Wednesday, October 28th from 3:00 – 4:00 pm
Leadership is a common term in community service but how do we really define leadership? Critical leadership provides a framework for leadership that is primarily addressed to the greater common good. This framework will be used to explore our service as well as reflect on current global issues. Come to this session to explore, in an interactive way, the important connections between critical leadership, mindfulness and social change – which many recent research studies are examining.

ACEs: Togetherness, Stressors, and Coping with Tricia Kingery and Dr. Barb Brady, ACES Coalition of WV
Thursday, October 29th from 9:00 – 10:00 am
The implications for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on families is well documented through the media. As families are impacted financially, spend more time together, and take on new roles as their worlds are turned upside down, Adverse Childhood experiences (ACES) are likely to become more prevalent. This presentation will provide an overview of ACES, how it impacts brain development in children and the residual effects on social, physical, emotional health of adults as noted in the original and subsequent ACES studies. Presenters will help participants better understand ACES, discover best practices for overcoming and preventing ACES, as well as, explore best practices on how to work as a school/community to support impacted families. Additionally, participants will learn how to join or support the efforts of the ACEs Coalition of WV. Presented by Dr. Barb Brady and Tricia Kingery, MA, MBA, of the ACES Coalition of WV.
