Offering Warmth on MLK Day

In honor of MLK Day of Service, Education Alliance AmeriCorps will be holding a coat drive called Coats4Kids from January 3-January 17, 2022. During this time, drop-off locations will be available for people to donate any winter gear. The Coats4Kids drive is part of a national drive, through One Warm Coat, that is being hosted by Education Alliance AmeriCorps.

Coats4Kids aims to donate at least 1000 articles of winter clothing to help West Virginia families stay warm. Drop-off locations are available around the state with donations benefiting the local community. Financial donations will be used to buy winter gear for West Virginia nonprofits in need. If you’re considering making a financial donation, the cost for each article of clothing goes as follows:

The Coats4Kids drive is part of a national drive, through One Warm Coat, that is being hosted by Education Alliance AmeriCorps.

The Coats4Kids drive is being held in honor of the national MLK Day of Service. The coat drive will last for two weeks from January 3, 2022 to January 17, 2022. Specific donation sites may collect donations on a designated day or during the full period of the drive. See “Where can I donate?” section to learn when donations are being collected in an area near you.

Education Alliance AmeriCorps' goal is to collect 1000 winter items including coats, hats, scarves, hoodies, gloves, and hand warmers to donate to West Virginia children.

The Coats4Kids drive is collecting coats, hats, scarves, hoodies, gloves, and hand warmers. Education Alliance AmeriCorps encourages you to put extra love in your donation by including a note in the pocket of each coat. For examples of pocket notes, see the “How can I provide extra love with my donation with a Pocket Note?” section.

The Coats4Kids drive is collecting both new and gently used winter clothing. Used donations should not have holes or stains on them and should be clean/wearable coats. Please wash used winter items before donating them.

The Coats4Kids drive is focused on providing coats to West Virginia children, but adult winter clothes will be accepted and donated appropriately.

The Coats4Kids drive accepts donations for all sizes of children and adults. Children require various sizes of coats and all donations will be put to use.

Physical donations of winter items can be sent by mail to PO Box 3071, Charleston, WV 25331-3071. Donations received by mail will be given to a nonprofit or school in Kanawha County.

Education Alliance AmeriCorps encourages you to put extra love in your donation by including a small picture or notecard in the pocket of each coat. These notes make such an incredible impact on the coat recipients. A short message can really go a long way. Examples include:
